The UK has always been an amazing place to be at Christmastime, from the point of view of enjoying the best hit singles. Internet technology allows artists to introduce their music to a potentially enormous audience, at low cost, without necessarily affiliating with a major record label (indie music). The design of digital music software encourages the discovery of new music. Royalties from digital services could prove to be an important source of income.
The top ten really worth listing are here, because they really create that wonderful warm feeling that we all long for, when we are suffering a British winter!

Each of the top ten singles here have their own special message and style which can be summed up as follows; No
No1 Cliff Richard – Miseltoe and Wine
Cliff Richard seems to ‘oose’ Christmastime in so many good ways. For a start he’s got a religion, which is great. He’s a truly likeable person and his music makes people feel content and that in spite of life’s struggles, perhaps the best things in life do not have to cost the earth. This song epitomises Christmas as a time with children and a time of singing carols and appreciating all that is good on our planet.
No 2 Band Aid – Do they Know Its Christmas?
This song will always have a special message and a special place in the line-up of music in wintertime, and at Christmas, because it has a very poignant message, that is, that there are some people who are starving at Christmas and that at Christmas we should remember that.
No 3 Chris Rhea – Driving Home for Christmas
This song seems to have a wonderfully atmospheric feel about the anticipation of coming home at Christmastime, which is quite unique among the Christmas hits. It really brings the message that wherever we might travel to, or how we might spend our days, that being with the special people in our lives, whoever they might be, is so much a part of Christmas and for Christians, how Christ wanted people to feel.

So that even if we spend Christmas alone, most will receive some cards, talk on our phones and at least be thought about!

Paul McCartney is an ideal interpreter of Christmas because he always has a “fun and the family” feel about him and a warmth too.
